You Finally Chose Epoxy Floor Paint?
Epoxy floor paints are used on floors that are subjected to heavy vehicular and human traffic, like the garage and the basement. Good results can be made on concrete slabs, kennels, interior floors, wooden car trailers, brick pavers, shop floor, laundry room floors and pole barns. These floor finish is made such that it resists oil, dirt, water, grease, and many other contaminants that would make ordinary paint a mess. Tough resins that are mixed during the application are responsible for this. This makes them the most cost effective solution to floor coating.
There are three types of epoxy adhesive paints. First, hundred percent solids do not contain solvents that evaporate. Number two are solvent based epoxies that penetrate and adhere quite well, but these are dangerous to health and you will have to vent your garage while you are applying them to the surface, due to heavy fumes. The third option are water based paints that are more affordable, thinner, have that anti-slip texture and are not hazardous. They need a lot of air the dry properly and in time.
You will have to clean your floor before applying the paint, use a hard bristled brush to remove all the debris and dirt, and do not forget to use some soapy water on the concrete to help you deal with the dirt. To remove soluble contaminants, use a de-greaser by scrubbing it over the surface, then rinse with water. If the water you use to rinse the epoxy floor is not sticking on the floor, then the floor is completely clean. leave your garage floor to dry out until tomorrow. Apply your paint the following morning. You will need 2 or 3 layers to make a good coating. Keep a clean cotton rag ready when using water based epoxy, and an epoxy thinner for solvent based epoxy to clean up any epoxy drips and spills.
I love this paint and go for it because it has a clean finish, is resistant to acid and salts, while it is durable and tough in the long run. Well, but these can only be attained from proper preparation, proper application and the time that you will give it to cure before you bring back your vehicle or allow traffic back.
