Advice on Taking Care of Your Lawn and Garden

recycle[1]

There is nothing quite as great to the soles of your feet as the feel of a lush lawn underfoot. Whether you have it for romping around dawn, strolling in, or just for the simple enjoyment of owning something really beautiful, there is nothing like having a nice lawn. But without proper lawn and garden care, how can you expect your lawn to thrive?

Great news~Excellent news}: Lawn and garden care is something even the most inexperienced pseudo-gardener can do! Just simply learn and follow the garden and lawn care steps below for almost guaranteed success:

Step 1: Plan Your Lawn

Setting up the plan for your lawn and garden care is a lot easier said than done. There are a lot of different things you need to consider, Least of which is how big you want your lawn and what shape will be. Knowing these two beforehand will help you determine the kind and extent of maintenance required and the watering needs of your lawn.

Size: Having the measurements to your lawn is critical so you know how many square feet of coverage is required.

Shape and Layout: Pick out  a layout for your lawn, one that will allow you to do your mowing without having to back up or stop. You should also make sure that there aren’t any sharp curves were corners and make sure that it has borders so that your mowing is made a lot quicker.

Step 2: Pick Out the Grass

The type of grass is another important step in lawn and garden care. As much as possible, you want your lawn grass to be compatible with the soil in your region. You can find out what type of soil is in your region by going to your local extension office, and they will provide you with a guide of the different types of grass which grow in that region.

After many years of performing lawn and garden service, we have found out that some grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass, fescue grass, and rye grass, prefer the cooler weather of the North.. there are also some that like the hotter weather of the Southern climates, like the St. Augustine, Bermuda, and zoysia. If you’re unsure about your region, or have any doubts, but a safe bet would be to use tall fescue which is known to grow in areas where the regions merge together.

Step 3: Test the Soil

A soil test is the next most important aspect of lawn and garden care. There’s a wide variety of different types of soil and each type has a high probability of containing different levels of acidity and nutrient content. In order for you to choose the right fertilizer for your soil you need to get it tested first.

After you perform the soil test, you need to correct it according to its needs. The use of  organic material is commonly recommended to raise the nutrient levels in your soil. However though, if you’re wishing to adjust the soil’s acidity level to a balanced state then you will find that lawn and garden care specialists recommend using lime and sulfur to do this. Simply broadcast a 2 to
3 in or 5 to eight centimeter bed of organic material over the lawn and merge it to 6 to nine inches or fifteen to twenty three cm into the ground.

Step 4: Install a Sprinkler System

While grass does not need constant watering, water remains an essential component in its growth. As you can see now, having a sprinkler system is vitally important aspect of lawn of  garden care. This is particularly important if you are located in a region where there isn’t much natural rainfall. If you get a lot of rain in the summer time, then having a sprinkler system in ground is an convenient option rather than a necessity.

I recommend looking at http://www.therebels.com to see if your region is right for tall fescue. It’s worked out really well for my yard and suggest you use it if you’re in the right zone. Good luck!
