Insomnia Causes Problems For Maintaining A Healthy Body And Mind

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Having  experienced the effects of insomnia I am well aware of how it can change your life.

You seem to be in a constant state of tiredness, wishing you could just sleep well for one night but you can’t sleep properly and you feel even more tired the next day.

If you haven’t slept properly for days you lack energy and enthusiasm for life. It could happen that people comment on your quick temper and lack of patience which can lead to problems with family life and damaging your relationship.

When insomnia is experienced you are left lacking energy and you may find yourself unable to do your work as well as usual. It could even lead to you losing your job if your work is suffering to a serious degree.

There is no doubt about it insomnia causes major difficulties for people who experience it’s effects. It hardly helps you feel any better when people who sleep easily every night will not understand and think it is the same as them having one bad nights sleep.

It is likely that all of us will sometimes have difficulty sleeping and they will feel a bit rough the next day. Just imagine how you would feel when you experienced those sleepless nights for weeks on end. You would have very little energy and you might feel you were not able to do anything that required you to be active.

This is how insomniacs may feel every day so getting through the day becomes and achievement. There are those who seem to almost thrive on four or five hours sleep most nights but for many this way of life seems a pretty miserable existence so when you get to the end of the day it feels like you have achieved something. The inner secrets of sleep remain hidden and we can’t understand it or what it’s purpose is or if we can train ourselves to manage with less.

There is a lack of certainty by those who claim to know so it is hardly surprising that solutions for insomnia vary in their effectiveness.

Relaxation seems to be a key component to falling asleep and avoiding anything that is stimulating and a relaxing bath before bedtime can be beneficial.

Quiet and peaceful atmospheres and warm milky drinks can be an effective aid to a good nights sleep.

Recognizing The Signs Of Bipolar Depression

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Most of us experience days when we feel on top of the world and other times when nothing seems right. However, for a person with bipolar depression these high and low points are far more extreme. According to an estimation three percent of adults in the United States are suffering from bipolar depression and many of these people do not even realize that they have this  disorder. Of all mental illnesses bipolar manic depression comes with the highest risk of suicide and the disease tends to get worse if left untreated. Therefore it is very important that we are all able to recognize the symptoms of this mental illness.

The Symptoms Of Bipolar Depression

The main symptomsof bipolar depression are episodes of mania, episodes of depression and periods that are a mixture of the two. These episodes are not fleeting and could last for weeks or even months. The first episodes usually occur at some point during adolescence but often go untreated when parents mistake the symptoms as being typical teen aged bad behavior. Parents who witness strange extreme behavior in their child should seek professional evaluation for their ward.

Manic episodes of bipolar depression are characterized by a feeling of extreme optimism and jubilation or irritability. A person with mania might not sleep but will still be full of energy. They may engage in extreme behaviors such as stealing, gambling, being sexually promiscuous or running up debts without thinking about the moral implications or consequences of their actions. In extreme cases a person going through a manic phase may experience hallucinations that cause them to see or hear things which are not really there or delusions of grandeur in which they see themselves as being special and in some way superior to those around them. Many manic depressives find these periods of mania enjoyable. What’s more many people with manic depression are very creative during these phases and can accomplish a great deal.

Depressive episodes of bipolar depression are the exact opposite of the manic phases. The person going through the depressive phase may feel hopeless, sad, tired and unable to derive a sense of joy from any activity. They may struggle to find the energy with which to perform simple tasks such as going to the kitchen to make a drink and wonder why they even bothered getting out of bed at all. Other symptoms include changes in appetite and eating habits as well as very low self-esteem. Frequent thoughts of death are also common during the depressive phase of the illness. Many people who are suffering from this disorder have attempted suicide and tragically around twenty percent to them succeeded.  There have been cases of people attempting to commit suicide in extreme ways such as jumping of cliffs or in front of moving vehicles.

Treatment Options For Bipolar Depression

Treatmentoptions for bipolar disorder include mood stabilizing medication, especially for an individual who has had two or more episodes of mania or depression. Both anti psychotics and antidepressants are used as mood stabilizers. Sedatives and sleeping aids are often prescribed too. Psychotherapy is another important part of the treatment for bipolar depression, and this is particularly effective during the depressive phase. Acupuncture and meditation are among alternative therapies that can also help. A person with bipolar depression should learn as much as they can about it and make sure they have a strong support network. It is also recommended that people with this illness monitor their moods so that they can recognize the warning signs of an episode.

Molded Sheetrock Wall

Dehumidifiers are devices that are used in an office or a home, to eliminate the moisture in the air. When there is a lot of moisture in a room it can cause fungi and other bacteria such as mold to accumulate causing diseases an allergies to develop. By using a dehumidifier, you can make sure your home and office are free from unwanted moisture. This is a simple solution to avoid a variety of potentially nasty viruses or germs.

When there is a high level of moisture within a room, mold begins to grown in damp areas due to the dust mites that begin to take over and increase. The level of humidity should be 50% or less in the home and a dehumidifier can help you reach that level. By staying below the fifty percent threshold you can stop the development of mold and dust mites. Dust mites like to live on furniture, carpets, on mattresses and in beds. These pesky nuisances like spaces with high concentrations of moisture. The cause of allergies is fecal matter that the dust mites leave behind. When the level of humidity is 50% or less, dust mites begin to dry out and those problems die out as well.
