Make Your Own Solar Panels

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

There are a lot of DIY Solar Panel guides available to purchase on the market today. But I didn’t want to get ripped off. I’m not very technical, so I wanted to be sure that I would use the DIY guide and make the solar panels without pulling out my hair.

Check out these instructions on how to build a small wind turbine.

Seeing if the solar panel DIY guide was worth my time

Check out the top 5 DIY energy guides that I asked people in the green forums about.

I was sure I went through all the DIY guides available and see if they stood behind their product. All of the different brands did say explicitly that they had guarantees to back up the product. It was on thing to {spit words from your mouth just to make a sale, but I wanted to be sure they the company actually backed up their claim and fully supported the guarantee.} I did the next best thing and that was to see what other people had going on.

I didn’t want a biased opinion so I didn’t even bother reading sites with sales letters.

After looking at peoples’ reviews, I figured out that most of the sites didn’t honor their guarantee which really turned me away. There were a few that did say they were unhappy with the product, but eventually got refunds.

I finally found the two guides that weren’t cross off my list because they actually provided good customer support.

Are solar panels hard to make?

To be brutally honest, my next biggest issue was that I wouldn’t be able to make the solar panels by myself. I didn’t even go to college and barely graduated from high school. In fact, I work in a grocery store and that’s got to be the least technical job ever.

I needed assurance that anyone could build these solar panels, even a regular guy like me. I didn’t want to fully believe the site when they said that even a thirteen year old could build it. They could have been making that up. I wanted a point of view that was unbiased and not out to get something.

I had no idea how hard it really was to make a solar panel so I asked people in a green forum that I go to often. I saw some videos on YouTube on how they were created by ordinary people and talked to people that had created some solar panels.

I wanted to get rid of this worry and know that I could do it. To my surprise, some people have actually tried it and gave me their 2 cents.

Molded Sheetrock Wall

Dehumidifiers are devices that are used in an office or a home, to eliminate the moisture in the air. When there is a lot of moisture in a room it can cause fungi and other bacteria such as mold to accumulate causing diseases an allergies to develop. By using a dehumidifier, you can make sure your home and office are free from unwanted moisture. This is a simple solution to avoid a variety of potentially nasty viruses or germs.

When there is a high level of moisture within a room, mold begins to grown in damp areas due to the dust mites that begin to take over and increase. The level of humidity should be 50% or less in the home and a dehumidifier can help you reach that level. By staying below the fifty percent threshold you can stop the development of mold and dust mites. Dust mites like to live on furniture, carpets, on mattresses and in beds. Before you start searching kitchen refacing companies take a few minutes to read through this brief but very informative article. I will quickly walk you trough very important fundamentals and assist you in your decision on the style and general progress of refacing your cabints in the kitchen.

As you search through the web you will come across a number of people claiming to be experts on this subject matter but by taking a bit of each will lead you to mess up everything. Let me quickly walk you through the following key points.

What is Kitchen cabinet refacing?

This is a process whereby old cabinets are redone with a new coating like laminate, thermo-foil or veneer. Most often this involves only changing the door fronts and drawer from but not the whole cabinets.  Ideally the process is easier and faster than a complete kitchen remodel.

This is probably the cheapest way to own new cabinets as compared to buying new ones. All in all then, this is probably the most convenient way, coupled with affordability and efficiency, of making your cabinets to look new.

Below I review some of the most common coating material used today

Laminate

This is basically a plastic film material but you can also get some made from thin sheet resins e.g. that made from polyethylene. This is arguably the cheapest material to usebut it is most vulnerable to wear and tear. However, it can really withstand heating oil and does seal heat really well.

Thermo-Foil

This is considered to be a revolutionary new wood-like material for Cabinetry.  It has many names e.g. RTF or Vinyl and it comes as quite a thick vinyl film, which is bonded tightly on a warp-resistant engineered wood core.

Defining Wood Veneer

This is a thin slice of wood that is cut from a log with a slicing, peeling, or sawing machine. This is used to give the cabinets a fine wood grain. There are different forms of this type material. This means you will need to consult with an expert to help you find the best for you kitchen.

Solar Panels – Will They Damage The Roof?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Domestic solar energy systems are mostly installed on the roof because that is where they would usually get the best sunlight exposure. That being said, you may have concerns about whether the panels causes damage to the roof. Following are a few facts so you will know from the start what’s likely to happen if you choose to install solar panels onto your roof.

You Can Build Your Own Solar Panel

Nearly all roofs are made to withstand at least eight to ten pounds per square foot of weight above and beyond that of the roofing material. That’s usually more than sufficient to bear the weight of the solar panels. However, each house represents a unique installation project. Your local building inspector or a professional solar panel installer should be able to give you an accurate assessment of your roof’s capacity to bear the weight of your solar power system.
