Enjoy Your Hobby – And Make Money With It Too

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

When it comes to hobbies, most people have many. However, it is that rare individual who finds one hobby to focus their attention and passion on which finds the most satisfaction. Also, whether hobbies are for fun or an avenue to createbook herbse wealth, they can be rewarding in many different ways. One such way is through the joy and happiness having such a hobby can bring to life whereas monetary rewards are yet another.

Sometimes however, even without the knowledge of the owner, antiques and coins can increase drastically in value over time. Therefore it is always good to keep up with current information on issues such as antique and coin values through the many specialized reports in these areas out on the market today. Whereas, if you are simply collecting for fun, all you have to do is admire the beauty of your collection while continuing to watch it grow.

Finding a hobby can be especially gratifying for individuals living in rural areas and small towns where activities are limited. Some of these areas do not even have cafes, art museums or theaters. Therefore, these small town hamlets can be quite overwhelming when one is out of work or has nothing to do. To this end, finding a hobby is a great way to keep entertained while at the same time often learning new skills. Just as collecting is one way to create cash over the long term, individuals in these small towns can often turn art and jewelry into cash in the short-term (more…)

Graduation Scrapbook: Ideas for High School Graduation Memories

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Did your child graduate this year?  Four years of high school seems to go by so fast.  Wasn’t it just yesterday that are graduates started kindergarten?  Now they’ll be headed off to college by fall.  Don’t forget to preserve and document your child’s high school graduation memories with a graduation scrapbook.

You may already have a school scrapbooking album for your child, but high school graduation memories can fill an entire scrapbook.  Dedicate one album for this special occasion.  It doesn’t need to be a large album, but one that can accommodate professional portraits might be important if you plan to include the sittings for senior pictures.

Senior pictures are usually taken the summer before a student’s senior year.  Still, they deserve a page in a graduation album.  Use your favorite pose or the one used in the high school yearbook for your graduation scrapbook’s title page.

Preparing a scrapbook for high school and memories doesn’t have to be difficult.  Take a copy of your child’s graduation announcement and showcase it on a page layout.  Don’t forget to include cards and letters from family and friends.  Highlight ones with graduation advice.  Include a special letter from you with a personal message to your child.  Tell him your hopes and dreams for the future along with things you wish you would have been told on graduation day.

Highlight any special awards or honors that your child is receiving at the graduation ceremony.  Designed page layouts to highlight these accomplishments.  You may want to include the original certificates or make copies.

If your child is giving a speech at the graduation ceremony, take some photographs of the graduate preparing and practicing the speech.  Preserve his notes including any drafts and use them on a scrapbook page.

Newspapers often cover graduations.  Clip articles from your local paper for a graduation scrapbook page.  If you or another family member have placed a congratulations newspaper ad for your graduate, make a photocopy of it to preserve it in the album.  Newspaper articles tend to fade over time, and copies will last longer.

Before the celebration even starts, make a list of the photo opportunities you don’t want to miss.  Photographs of your graduate with family, teachers and friends are as important as pictures of the actual ceremony.

Mementos of high school graduates should include the program from the graduation ceremony.  Try to preserve more than one copy to use on a graduation scrapbook page to show both the cover and the inside as much as possible.

Candid shots are a fun way to document graduation parties.  Send a camera with your child when he attends graduation celebrations.  Plan to exchange photographs with your child’s friends as well.  That way you’ll have plenty of candid photos to choose from for your graduation album.

You should definitely include a copy of your child’s final report card or transcript.  A nice complement to the scrapbooking page would be a copy of the college acceptance letter he received from the college he plans to attend.

The final closing page to the graduation scrapbook could be a photograph of him leaving for college.  You might also choose to include a picture of his first day of kindergarten alongside a graduation picture.

It’s easy to create a graduation scrapbook that will soon become a family heirloom.  The most important part of designing a graduation scrapbook is to document and preserve your child’s high school memories.

Quick and Easy Baby Shower Scrapbooking Layouts

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

It’s no wonder that most mothers are on the hunt for unique and original baby shower scrapbooking layouts, since a baby shower is probably one of the many memorable moments she’ll want to capture during her pregnancy.Baby shower scrapbooking layouts are perfect for remembering those cute presents and visits by friends and relatives! Are you looking for more scrapbooking page ideas?

There are many different paper packs and templates that you can buy for scrapbooking a baby shower.  Many scrapbook companies put together pages that are set with frames for photos, cute sayings, and everything you need to make a baby scrapbook page.  If you’re new to scrapbooking or aren’t creatively gifted then these baby shower scrapbooking layouts can be the right thing for you.  All that’s needed are those pictures!  But some people aren’t interested in having their pages already designed for them but still are a bit overwhelmed with what to do when it comes to making up their own baby shower scrapbooking layouts.

One thing to keep in mind is that while many use the colors of pink and blue for their pages you can get past this and use colors that you like.  Strong colors of autumn such as chocolate brown, rusty red, and warm yellow are favorites for many women when it comes to baby shower scrapbooking layouts.  One reason for this is that these colors are somewhat neutral and a bit easier on the eyes than strong blues, but aren’t as washed out as pink can sometime seem.  You might also try these same colors but in primary shades, meaning red, blue and yellow.  Usually baby toys are tinted with primary colors so this can really be appropriate for baby shower scrapbooking layouts.

Get creative with the quotes about scrapbooking and the fonts you use.You can use just about any type of font on your pages, from childish-looking fonts to elegant and simple ones.  You can put the child’s name or a simple phrase such as “Baby Boy” or “Baby Girl” across the top of any baby shower scrapbooking layouts and some simple wording underneath in a smaller font for a nice touch. Try using cricut cutter machine to create your letters.  You don’t always have to use the word “baby” on your pages- try other words like Cherished, Love, Welcome, and Precious.

Even though the economy is bad at the moment, that doesn’t mean people still don’t want to be able to give memorable baby showers for their friends. The trick to doing this in a slow economy is to cut corners on aspects that won’t be noticeable. That can begin with the baby shower invitations and include the decorations and any scrapbooks created to commemorate the event.

One of the means to do that is to use good free baby shower clipart. Very often you can find cool free images online. Just search for “free baby shower clip art,” plus the type of image you want. For instance, if you’d like pink baby girl clip art, enter those words or some variation of them in the search box. That will work with almost any baby shower theme you can think of, although the more obscure the theme,

LETTERING Quick Tips for Your Scrapbooking Journaling

What do you know about scrapbooking journaling?  Simply put, this is when you add words to your scrapbook pages that are more than just a title or phrase. These words may tell the story of the photo or memento on the layout or may just describe your feelings about it.  Using scrapbooking journaling is a bit different than using simple titles and phrases, and understanding how it’s different can help you to create something attractive and effective as well.

To begin with, keep in mind that scrapbooking journaling involves a lot of words, and you will need to use a font that can be read easily.  Often titles and phrases are added to scrapbooks using a fancy font possible made with  cricut design software. Since they’re typically just a word or two, this is acceptable.Especially when you are including an entire paragraph or even more, you need to use something that is easy to read.  Typically the contrast between a fancy font for your title and a simpler block font for your scrapbooking journaling is perfectly acceptable and may even add more visual interest to your page.
