Learn How To Stop Panic Attacks

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Many people just get on with life and expect their anxious feelings to fade and not give them a second thought. however, if you suffer from anxiety disorder, you can do nothing other than dwell on the thoughts of anxiousness which in itself makes you more anxious. A vicious feedback loop soon establishes itself and you are trapped in the middle of it unable to see how to escape its trap.

The natural feeling of anxiety and panic is something many people experience over the course of their lifetime. A state of nervous excitement before that first date, the fear before a driving test, the imminent arrival of your first baby… Most people take this anxiety and stress in their stride. It subsides and the anxious feelings dissipate as we return to our usual state of wariness, no problems there then.

But for some people that heightened sense of anxiety is within them every hour of every day of the year, every year. They are in a permanent state of anxiousness and cannot relax and clear their heads. They worry. They are cautious about anything and everything. They are often scared about being worried and worried about being afraid.

If this remains untreated which traditionally is by prescribed medication, with or without therapy, it can develop and be exhibited as panic attacks, where ultimately the sufferer is anxious about when the next attack will happen which increases the state of anxiousness of Overcoming Panic Attacks which in turn increases the likelihood of another attack.

From one vicious cycle into another. The knock-on effects of this cycle of anxiousness can lead to Panic Disorder. Panic Attacks often exhibit themselves as part of a syndrome of responses recognised as anxiety disorders which include Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Those Symptoms of Panic Attack can arise at any time usually for no apparent reason and make the conditions all the more difficult to deal with. The unpredictable attacks often leave you worrying about when the next one will be and then we set off into another self fulfilling cycle of anxiety which can only exacerbate the condition.

The fear of the next attack is not what stops you in your tracks, it’s the fear of having nowhere safe to run to if another attack strikes. So you stop travelling on the train, in the bus, in the car. You stop taking holidays abroad because how could you possibly consider flying in your condition?

Maybe its just safer for everyone if you just stay at home and anyway, you don’t want people to know about your attacks/ you don’t want to be a burden/ one thousand and one other excuses to stay in the safe confines of your home. STOP RIGHT THERE! That is giving up on your life! Remember? You used to go shopping with friends, you used to go to the cinema, you went out for the occasional drink with work colleagues, you went to work, you went on trips and on holiday. And now?

Social Anxiety Treatments.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

It’s not unusual to feel butterflies in your tummy while standing behind the curtains waiting to be called on to stage to give a speech. Interviewing for a job could also alert butterflies in your tummy to flutter around restlessly. As a matter of fact, occasional cases of nerves are perfectly normal. However, if you’re so afraid of public embarrassment you do everything to avoid uncomfortable social situations, you could have a social anxiety disorder.

Check this information on Social Anxiety Symptoms; you might find it useful.

What it does to a person’s quality of life is disturbing.Regardless of it being irrational, the physical sensations and the anxiety are both very real. Scientific research is ongoing to relate anxiety and social phobia to genetic causes. But prior to the release of conclusive evidence, therapy is still the recommended treatment.

Social Anxiety Treatment: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy .

Cognitive Behavioral Theraphy (CBT) has been found to be most effective for panic attacks, social and other anxiety disorders. CBT is the accepted standard treatment for social anxiety despite other options. It’s logic is plain: Your thoughts dictate your feelings and your feelings dictate your behavior.

Besides working to reduce the physical symptoms you experience, CBT attempts to resolve the cause of your symptoms. Typically, the process has three steps: First, CBT helps you with physical symptoms; it guides you through steps for taking control of it.Controlled breathing techniques are effective for minimizing ragged breathing. Next, you get the hang of challenging negative thoughts and have new ones. Last but definitely not the least, you develop confidence in facing what used to be stressful situations through gradual exposure.Desensitizing is most effective in group sessions but can also be done in individual sessions.

Here is a second recommended reading: Social Anxiety Secrets .

Different Techniques for Social Anxiety Treatment.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is unnecessary in all cases as there are varying degrees of social phobia. When it’s mild or moderate, self-help, usually with body relaxation and breathing techniques.

Learning to take deep, controlled breaths helps minimize shaking common with social phobia.Shallow breathing results to dizziness. Escalating pulse rates and building muscular tension can be expected with this symptom. Breathing slowly, deeply relieves tension and relaxes your muscles. As you breathe in more oxygen, your pulse gradually regains normalcy.

Healthy habits immensely help, too. A cup of herbal tea in place of a brewing cup of coffee immediately relieves your physical symptoms. In contrast to chamomile tea’s relaxing benefits, coffee increases the pounding in your chest as it is a powerful stimulant.

The Origin of Panic Attacks .

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Stress appears to be at the center of panic attacks and most, if not all, anxiety disorders.Despite the lack of definitive answers, it is obvious that the more stressed you become, the more prone you are to suffering a panic attack.

You might want to reread Ways to Control Panic Attacks before continuing.

After It First Happens.

You can experience a panic attack literally at any time. This is especially true the very first time it occurs. But these nearly ten minutes of sheer terror are not really what makes panic attacks a disturbing problem – it’s the after-effects.

Following the first, the lingering feelings of fear inevitably leads you to worry about the next time it stikes. Can’t you simply charge it to stress and forget the experience ever happened? Not if the symptoms still bother you long after it has happened.Often, people, situations or things you associate with that first panic attack remind you of your experience. It may be an unconscious effort but you’ll start distancing yourself from these reminders. That ever-present fear of another panic attack makes you over skeptical of social invitations. In time, what were ‘normal’ activities for you turn into stressful chores you fear.

Trauma as a Cause of Panic Attacks.

The effects of traumatic events in your life mirror the lingering effects of a first panic attack. The experience leaves you in an ever-present state of fear because the feeling never really leaves.

Military troops who have served in unstable territories return home marred by the experience. They dream of the terrible violence they’ve seen in full, high-definition color, courtesy of the mind’s powerful recording capability. After being held hostage at gunpoint in their own homes, victims begin acting weird where they once felt safe and secure. Panic disorders can result from an untreated post-traumatic stress disorder.

Lifestyle Defines Your Risk .

If you’re life is stressful enough to require a daily dosel of anxiety medication and strong coffee, you’re a prime candidate for a panic attack. To some extent, anxiety is helpful. But if it’s not within your control, as when you down prescription drugs, consider theraphy. If you are downing lots of alcohol to deal with your pain, if you can’t live without smoking a pack or more daily or if you’re drinking more coffee than any other liquid, you are very likely to have a paanic attack.

Your State of Mind is Important.

Because of technology, life proceeds at a very fast pace and anxiety is a big part of it. We have choices as to how to cope with stress. You must pick a healthy option. Before scientists find genetic causes of stress and anxiety disorders, keeping mentally healthy is your best defense against panic attacks. Just like you value physical health, attend to your mental well-being as well.

Baby Shower Centerpieces – A Must For Your Party

Cheap Baby Shower Invitation

If you have the special honor of hosting a baby shower for a friend or family member, you’re well aware that there are many important aspects and details that will need taking care of before the big day arrives. Making the baby shower centerpieces is one of those tasks that will definitely require a bit of creativity and some patience, but luckily, it isn’t one that has to cost a fortune either.

Edible Baby Shower Centerpieces

– Candy Topiaries: These can be made with styrofoam blocks and balls, with either plain or attractively decorated flower pots, cinnamon sticks, candy corn or other not too hard candies, and a glue gun.

– The Watermelon Buggy: If you’re feeling extra creative, carve a watermelon into the shape of a baby buggy or carriage, which actually isn’t as difficult as it first looks, and then fill with all sorts of delicious fruits such as grapes, melon balls, and cherries. Using a lettuce garnish as a base, you can add slices of orange plus cherries as a “hubcap” in the center.

Baby Shower Centerpieces – Non Edible

– Baskets: You should be able to find some nice baskets in your local dollar store, and select from these to use for your basket centerpiece. These can be gifts for the guests to take home, or more for the Mom-to-be herself. Remember to be creative when it comes to choosing a “basket,” as just about any type of container can be used as such.

Some fillers for the basket could include bottles, toys, socks, pacifiers, teethers, lotions, and bath toys, or if the centerpieces are for the guests, add candles, aromatherapy items, coupons for book stores, spas, and hair salons, as well as bubble bath, books, nail polish, chocolates, and useful items for the kitchen.

- Baby Sock Roses: Using simple vases, some artificial flowers, baby’s breath, floral wire, and several pairs of baby socks in the colors of your choice, you can easily make “roses” arranging them in the vases with the greenery. Each sock should be tightly rolled, with thinner socks working best, by starting from the toe, working towards the opening, and finished by fastening with double sided tape.

Experiment with rolling or folding the socks to achieve the desired look of petals, and then insert the floral wire and wrap the bottoms of the “flowers” in green floral tape before arranging in vases.

– Diaper Cakes and Wreaths: These old favorite baby shower centerpieces are still a good choice today. Just use your talents and imagination to be creative with the design. The idea could be used to make diaper cupcakes, also using either disposable or cloth diapers.

Other possibilities include stuffed animals with ribbons, balloons of varying colors, and flowers; all this can be mixed and matched. A cute plush toy can be transformed into a centerpiece with imaginative decoration, useing things like bibs, baby blankets, baby bottles and so on.

Painting and stenciling inexpensive flower pots can make great baby shower decorations. Just choose your own stencil designs and sayings for a unique decoration. Flowers from a florist can be costly, so on the day of the baby shower can could pick up a bouquet at the supermarket at a lower price. The bouquets can then be broken down and added to the painted pots, or placed singularly in clear glass vases.

Once you have made your decisions on a baby shower centerpiece then you can think about getting organized and sending out those baby invites.

Learning about colors

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Toddlers are interested in the world around them. They are inquisitive and always very eager to learn. Teaching a toddler something new is not always easy however because their  attention spans are short and not all of them are ready for a 'lesson' just yet. If you plan teach your toddler all about the different colors, here is the best way to start.

The first activity you do together should be just fun, simple and basic.Get out your crayons and a coloring book or some plain white paper. Start with the  primary colors: red, yellow and blue.

Show your toddler each colored crayon and say the color to him, then together. If he does not want to say it, that’s okay – he is still learning by looking at the color and listening to you.

Choose a picture to color together.  Little boys enjoy coloring pictures of cars and trucks while little girls usually enjoy coloring images from fairy tales and princesses  -  at sites like Barbie Coloring Pages you’ll find the best free Barbie printables

If you are using blank, white paper, let your toddler choose something that the two of you can draw and color together. Now it’s coloring time!

As he colors, tell him what color he is using. Then attempt to say the name of the color together. Do not force him or her to tell you the color. This should be a fun activity for your child not a drill! Make sure to compliment his coloring by saying things like, "What a pretty red flower!” or “I love the way you colored the yellow sun.”

After you have colored together, make sure to put his picture on display somewhere prominent where visitors to your home can comment on it.  This will give your child confidence and boost his/her self esteem – which is great for you because he will want to color and draw with you again – and you will have yet another opportunity to talk about colors together.

Once your toddler recognizes the basic colors of red, blue and yellow – you can move on to other colors – don’t overwhelm him/her with the rainbow just yet!

Remember that crayons pose a choking hazard - so always supervise your child while he draws and colors.
