Learn new skills to make money from home

Economic stress is causing more and more people to think of another way of earning an income.

There is no mystery in the fact that the world economy has taken a battering.  So what can every day mums and dads do about this.

Many people are going to be losing jobs, or may be having their hours cut back, so it is a good idea for people to start looking at ways to make an extra income.   It is not a good idea to sit and wait for job losses or reduced hours before you start either learning some new skills, or researching how you will earn an income should the worst happen.

All sounds doom and gloom doesn't it, I don't mean it to be, but I am trying to awaken you to the idea that income earners should try and be prepared for the worst.

In saying that, it is a good idea anyway to try and earn some extra money and put some aside for 'a rainy day'.

There are still a lot of people who can afford to continue purchasing, so in your research look to see what people are spending their money on, and target those areas.

ADD VARIETY AND MAKE INTERESTING SCRAPBOOKS

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE

It is definetly a good idea to create variety with your photos.  Apart from the subject matter, it is a really good idea to create variety with the sizes and shapes of the actual photos themselves. When you study each photo you will notice that some of them can be cropped quite a bit and therefore changing a rectangular photo into a square photo.   Circles and Ovals look great too and really catch the eye.  Sometimes you wont want to cut a photo, but you may cut an oval in some board and place it over the photo creating the oval shape.  This can look classy if you then add an embellishment around the edge of the cardboard, making it look like a real framed photo.

Interesting scrapbooking will have people coming back to look more often.

FIND GREAT EMBELLISHMENTS AROUND THE HOME

Scrapbooking can, and most probably will be, a "Work In Progress".  You will find that you may not have quite the right color on hand, or quite the right embellishment, and that is OK.  Just keep working through your book with what you have.

It is amazing how many things you will have around the house to embellish your pages – buttons, ribbons, wool, glitter and all sorts of other nic naks in your hobby and sewing boxes.  Once you have ratted through all your own stuff, go visit the rellies, and see what is hiding in their cupboard.

Collect unusual embellishments for your scrapbook

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

IT IS NICE TO HAVE THE PRETTY COMMERCIAL SCRAPBOOKING EMBELLISHMENTS, BUT YOU CAN GET SOME GREAT ONES OF YOUR OWN.

You can get some really interesting embellishment pictures from magazines and also from brochures and flyers.  Just keep your eyes open.

If you are doing a scrapbook about a holiday, collect little mementos during the holiday to add into the book – they can be anything from serviettes, match boxes, straws, coasters, cards, note paper and the list goes on.  The beauty is that these items are small, but they will have a great impact on you when you are going through your holiday scrapbook at a later date.

Scrapbooking on a Budget – techniques

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Yes, it is quite possible to scrapbook on a budget!

I have to be the first to admit that there are some absolutely fabulous scrapbooking embellishments for sale and I often think that you need a big fat wallet to be able to make up a snazzy scrapbook.  BUT THAT IS JUST NOT TRUE!

If you have had no art experience then you may need to do some practice to get the techniques right, but that is all in the fun of creating a piece you will be proud of.

Today I will talk about the background page.  It can be, and often is, a plain background where you use photo, borders and embellishments to us brighten up the page.  But I will tell you a few tips so that you can use colored card which is a lot cheaper than patterned paper to buy.

First off, you can buy large sheets of thick colored card but make sure you cut them to the right size to fit your folder.  And if you are on a budget you can use a ring binder for your work rather than buy a scrapbooking album.

1.  To pattern this page you can use some paint or ink and sponge a background onto the page.

2.  Use a biro, gold pen, felt tip pen, or any other pen, and use something and draw a series of interlinking circles, squares or flower shapes on your coloured card.

3.  Create a pattern on your computer and run the coloured card through the printer.

This project would be great family entertainment on those rainy days or holidays when you don't know what to do.  For more  ideas you could go to 101 Tips for Starting Scrapbooking with Success.

Rope in the Family for a Scrapbooking Project

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

SCRAPBOOK with friends who are doing it too.  This way you can share papers and swap smaller bits that you probably wouldn't use otherwise.  It makes a great afternoon's fun and you will feed off each other with ideas and expressions to write on your pages.

I told my sister-in-law that she has to come back for a holiday.  I did a great scrapbook of my grandchildren when she was here last, but haven't touched it since, even though I have had a lot of good intention.  It is great fun to do with the family.
